They watched exotic animals perform tasks and tricks using props. Some of the animals observed are African lion, North American black bear, Bengal tiger, hawk, chimpanzee, and mountain lion or cougar. They learn that the animal training industry is one that is growing due to the appeal of animals and the fact that in every 3 to 4 commercials on TV today feature an animal of some sort. Many trainers at the Teaching Zoo are there to learn and move on to other careers working with animals, such as zoological and animals of hire jobs.
